I have to stay until midday tomorrow but at least I’m not staying in Baltimore and I have plenty leftover on my metro card from New years weekend. Eating lunch in Georgetown at a French cafe. Getting the evil eye from the barmaid. Must look too ‘murican for the frenchists.
Thinking about Thai for dinner after I finish working. Hope everyone is safe and warm for the impending doom of the snowpocalypse.

Georgetown is a snooze; great place to walks around and get some coffee and light meal, but most of the bars there are just filled with a bunch of 20-somethings that have no idea how to drink or behave themselves in a bar. Old Town Alexandria can also be a fun place to walk around, but it’s a bit of a hike, and it closes a little early.
Try DuPont, near the corner of Q and 22nd. There’s a fantastic pub called Bier Baron that has decent food, and over 500 beers available at any given time. I go there whenever I’m in the area.
Chinatown is also a great place. It’s smaller, so there’s not as much walking around to do, but it’s usually a little bit more grown up and has some great places to eat. Hint in Chinatown: when you’re walking around, especially 0n the block facing the Verizon Center, look for the random little one-off doors that seem a little bit out of place. They’re basement dive bars. A few of them aren’t great, but there’s also a few amazing little craft beer bars to be found there. There’s also a mid/high-end steak house, and all of it is less than a block away from the biggest metro station in the city.
About two blocks away from the Navy Yard Metro, there’s a great brewery called Bluejacket that opened up a few years ago. Good food and excellent beer. Just don’t wander much farther away from the station than that. Outside of a few blocks of the metro station, it’s not the best of places to walk around.
You still have plenty of time to go out, get a good meal, and check out a dive or two. Get going!
